Who We Are
David Canavan
During his 20 year career, David Canavan has focused on the intersection of people, systems, and technology providing professional services to the non-profit, government, and private sectors. Mr. Canavan has served for nearly two decades as a technical assistance provider to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development both as a prime contractor and a subcontractor. For over a decade, Mr. Canavan has led the Disaster Technical Assistance Team that the Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs uses in the aftermath of natural disasters and public health emergencies to ensure that people experiencing homelessness have access to response and recovery programs and services. During his tenure, the team has developed and implemented a concept of operations, direct engagement, and quantifiable outcomes for hundreds of HUD grantees experiencing a presidentially declared disaster.
Darlene Mathews
Darlene Mathews is a senior human services consultant who, for nearly two decades, has delivered new conceptual structures to rebuild portfolios of human services in the areas of homelessness, diversity and equity, affordable housing, and disaster recovery for special needs populations. Ms. Mathews specializes in providing practical, real-time solutions to improve the core functions of housing initiatives, contracting systems, and grant management approaches necessary to strengthen the impact of large-scale crisis response and housing interventions. Ms. Mathews serves as a senior leader on the Disaster Technical Assistance Team that HUD's Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAPS) uses in the aftermath of catastrophic disasters and public health emergencies.
Michele S. Williams
Michele S. Williams has over twenty-five years of experience in providing services to vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities, individuals, and families experiencing homelessness and low-income communities. As founder of Michele S. Williams, LLC, a minority and woman-owned business, Ms. Williams has leveraged her expertise as a leader in the nonprofit and government sectors to create a firm uniquely designed to meet the needs of nonprofit organizations and government entities engaged in human services work. Her focus is on crisis management and solutions; increasing capacity for organizations; supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; and building the skills and confidence of staff. As a HUD Technical Assistance provider, she is a member of the Disaster Technical Assistance Team and Racial Equity Advisory Council.
Amy McPherson
Amy McPherson is the founder of Advisors for Change (AFC) which she began in 2006 to provide financial management services exclusively to nonprofit organizations including a number of homeless services organizations in Maryland and Washington, DC. Under Ms. McPherson’s direction, AFC specializes in helping nonprofits build financial management capacity, particularly related to federal funding issues. With over 25 years of experience in nonprofit finance and accounting, Ms. McPherson brings an understanding of implementing strong financial management operations in a wide variety of conditions and with an efficiency beneficial in rapidly changing conditions.
